8/13/22 -- Stage Island Harbor to Portland

Got up late (almost nine) after a lovely night sleeping with open hatches and water lapping on the hull. Weighed anchor at 10:20 and ran close along the coast to Portland. Pulled up to the fuel dock at DiMillo's Marina just after noon and got a pump out as well as filling up with diesel. Checked in at the marina office and then had lunch at DiMillo's waterfront restaurant (a longtime place in Portland). After that we walked into town to pick up a couple items (and search unsuccessfully -- yet again -- for the Weekend WSJ). Got back to the boat about 3:30 to do some chores and catch up on the blog. Janet sat out on the back deck and watched all the goings on. The marina is mainly local boats and there was a lot of activity on a Saturday evening. We showered on the boat (didn't want to be schlepping our gear to the marina on a busy Saturday night) and then walked into town and found a lovely Italian place (Solo Italiano) for a late dinner.

the marina's floating docks have to handle a vertical range of about 12' -- shown here is an ultra-low tide of neg. 1.2'

even though the Portland waterfront is very touristy, they still find room for the lobster boats
