DAY THIRTEEN -- SAVANNAH

                                             DAY THIRTEEN -- SAVANNAH

The careful reader will note that we somehow jumped from Isle of Hope to Savannah. Isle of Hope is a little community just a couple miles south of the Savannah city limits, and we took an Uber into the city to spend the day (and the night) and I didn't think it was fair to count this as a travel day since the boat never left the Isle of Hope Marina.

Before we took the Uber into Savannah, we used the marina's loaner car to run into town to buy supplies at the CVS and a local liquor store. The Uber dropped us off at the Olde Pink House restaurant just before noon. This is a famous old foodie place in Savannah that doesn't take reservations and is hard to get into. We were lucky enough to get two seats at the bar downstairs. We spent the next two-plus hours working through a four-course lunch (we shared every course except the sorbet at the end), watching the rain pour down outside, and watching the interesting patrons come and go.

After lunch I spent almost an hour on-line, and on the phone, and taking two Uber rides to try and buy a Weekend WSJ. Fruitless. Very frustrating. I guess I'm just old-fashioned. Given that frustration and a big boozy lunch and rain that wasn't stopping, we decided it was a good time to just relax. Later we cleaned up and walked almost a mile to dinner, which was at a nice place on the riverfront. The streets were full of kids from SCAD in all kinds of interesting costumes as it was their graduation weekend. We watched TV for a while back at the hotel after dinner, which was the first time we'd done that in two weeks.

P.S. I posted this picture more than two weeks after this post because it was the only post without a picture and that didn't seem right. This shows the cabin on a typical evening at a marina -- curtains drawn and a couple lights on. Very cozy.

  1. We all ate at The Pink House when we visited Savannah with you in 2005! It's still going strong.
